HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

Catbangen Central School is the biggest of the nine complete elementary schools of San Fernando District II of the City Schools Division of San Fernando. Due to the distance of the Barangay Catbangen to San Fernando Central School, the residence of the barangay felt the need to have an elementary school for their children’s comfort and safety. Since the La Union High School is just nearby. The residents thought of seeking the help of the Provincial Government through Mr. Panteleon Pimentel, the Provincial Treasurer at that time.

A pioneer class was established in 1952, by Mrs. Lilia Estabilio, a transferred teacher from Baguio City and the daughter of the Provincial Treasurer. A house owned by the late Clemente Pimentel was rented for the establishment of a Grade III class. This house was situated at Gov. Nisce St. The next school year 1953-1954, a complete elementary grade was put up along Mabini St., spearheaded by the principal, Mrs. Paz Abad with the cooperation of the PTA headed by the late Mr. Dio Tadina.

As years went on, the school continued to grow in population creating extension classes. Mr. Igmedio Bacungan became the next principal, followed by the late Mr. Conrado Estonactoc, Mr. Segundio Arizabal, Mr. Quirino Retuta, Mr. Vicente Flores Sr., Mrs Fernandez from Bangar, Mr. Ricardo Nitura, Mr. Demetrio O. Flores, Mrs. Angelita Borja, Mrs. Amparo Sanglay, Mr. Vicente Jr., Mrs. Teresita M. Lorenzana, Miss Florenda Flores, Mrs. Aida L. Casuga, Mrs. Brenda Sabado, Mr. Bernardo T. Rombawa, Mrs. Jannette A. Caluza. At present, the school is headed by the newly installed principal, Mrs. Myla M. Ducusin.

The school was highly recognized by the DEPED officials when it won the Regional Most Effective School in 1995 so it eventually represented Region I in the Search for the NATIONAL EFFECTIVE SCHOOLS in the Philippines. Some of the prime teachers were given the chance to visit Lemery Central School in Batangas to observe how it was run by competent administrators being the National Winner that school year 1994-1995.

The school participated in different academic and non-academic contests such as quiz bee, literary contests and athletic competitions and continued giving laurel to school through the full support of the competent and dedicated teachers, principal and the able support of the PTA, Local Government Units and Non-Government Organizations.
